Epithelial skin cancer is the most frequent malignant tumor. Its prevalence and the high rate of curation with early and suitable treatment provides an excellent opportunity to study the main factors involved in its aetiology and recurrence.
We have reviewed 115 patients (129 tumours) operated over a 1-year-period with clinical diagnosis of epidermic malignant lesion in head and neck, bigger than 1 cm with anatomopathologic confirmation. We study several aspects: predisponent factors, carcinogenesis, anatomic distribution, histology, reconstructive technique, adjuvant treatment and rate of recurrence.
Basal-cell carcinoma is the more frequent lesion, localized at the nose with a mean age of 74. The reconstructive technique used are different loco-regional flaps. Recurrence rate is 16.27% of the lesions reviewed, mainly squamous cell carcinoma.
Most malignant skin lesions are found in sun radiation exposed body areas, as the cervicofacial region. The latter are the most difficult ones from an aesthetic point of view. Aesthetic reconstructive subunits are classified in order to settle the surgical plan
