The risk of occupational accidents and transmission of blood microorganisms, related with health care workers in public services, shall be persistently investigated. The transmission prevention of bloodborne pathogens is based on the information that all blood and certain body fluids are potentially infectious. Precautions, applied to all patients on all conducts, may reduce the incidence and the quantity of health care workers with occupational blood exposure.
The security in the work is primordial, but in many times the speed that a medical professional have to act is too high, that the biossecurity laws are forgotten. In this way, we made a comparative study to examine the incidence and prevalence of accidents involving sharp instruments with health care workers. And analyze in a quantitative and qualitative way the results with values of the research done in 1997, with a likely population. With all the results, we noticed the increasing number of this kind of accidents with health care workers.
