We present the case of an 82-yrs old women affected by a skin affection of 30 years duration, consisting of asymptomatic yellow streaks horizontally and simmetrically crossing the middle and lower sides of the trunk. A bioptic specimen showed a normal epidermis and an haphazardly oriented, fragmented fibrillar material surrounded by thicked collagen bundles in the middle and deep dermis. A Gomori-stain showed an increased number of elastic fibers arranged in a wavy pattern between collagen bundles in the same location. The diagnosis of linear focal elastosis (LFE) was made. LFE was reported by Burket in 1989. It is a disorder of dermal elastic tissue where pathogenesis is still unclear. While some Authors believe that LFE is a peculiar variant of striae distensae, others argue that LFE must be considered an hamartomatous/nevoid degenerative or rigenerative process of elastic fibers.
