Photoageing is a preventable disease caused by a localised vitamin A, C and E deficiency. Where photodamage has become established, the replacement of these vitamins can be facilitated with the use of iontophoresis and sonophoresis. With iontophoresis about 400% better penetration can be achieved whereas with sonophoresis up to 4000% better penetration can occur under ideal conditions, and skin can be improved quite dramatically. Wrinkles can actually be safely “melted “away.
The use of iontophoresis of vitamin A and C can also be used to reduce scars and the author believes gives better results than dermabrasion.
When enhanced penetration of the vitamins is not adequate, repetitive needling of skin can smoothen out scars and wrinkles as a better alternative to laser re-surfacing and dermabrasion. Dermabrasion and laser re-surfacing thins the epidermis and results in an artificial looking surface whereas iontophoresis of the skin nutrients actually makes the skin thicker, healthier and more beautiful.
