ABSTRACT

We studied all the homicides by stabbing that occurred in Villa Clara during a 10 year period, in order to find out how the population of this province was affected from January 1986 to December 1995. A descriptive and medico-legal study was performed taking into consideration some biological variables. We found that most of the victims were men (79.7%) within the 15 - 49 year old age groups and with europoid racial characteristics (72.4 %); also homicides occurred mostly in urban areas (65.1 %), during evening time (46.8 5) on week ends, preferably on public places, specially the street (36.4 %). The anterior region of the thorax was the most wounded area (59.8 %). We concluded that despite of homicides by stabbing, as general phenomenon, didn’t indicate an increasing of the violence situation as such in Villa Clara, there are elements from the medico legal point of view, which allows us to state that there was an increase in the specific violence on executing those acts, specially during the second half of the studied period.
