ABSTRACT

Historically, all the techniques to minimise peri-oral wrinkling etc have involved destruction of the epidermis which stimulates deposition of collagen in the dermis and secondary intention healing of the epidermis. I present my almost three year experience of a simple, safe and inexpensive technique to preserve the epidermis, thicken the papillary dermis and reduce the appearance of these ugly wrinkles.

The skin heals within a very short period (after all, it is only a skin-prick!), and while improvement is immediately obvious, it improves even further over the next six months.

The skin is needled with a simple tattoo-artist’s gun and this induces a mild inflammatory response which automatically results in the release of growth factors, increased collagen deposition by the fibroblasts, This treatment can be used for lower eyelids, forehead creases and ugly scars. Hard raised scars become softer and flatter.
